LaFayette Woman's Club

A Legacy Born in 1938

The GFWC LaFayette Woman’s Club, an esteemed chapter of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and GFWC Georgia, was established with a vision back in 1938.

A Decade of Wellness

Our initial decade was characterized by an unwavering commitment to the Well Baby Clinic in LaFayette. By 1950, our identity evolved to the LaFayette Woman’s Club. Since then, our name has become synonymous with active civic participation, making us one of LaFayette’s cornerstone organizations.

State and District Involvement

Throughout our history, we’ve believed in extending our influence beyond the local level. Katherine Derrick’s leadership as state president from 1986-88 remains memorable, with a state award commemorating her contributions. Many of our members have actively engaged at both state and district levels, regularly participating in conventions and lending their expertise.

Our Enduring Promise

For over eight decades, we’ve held one mantra close to our hearts: “Making a Difference in Our Community.” And every day, we strive to live up to that promise.

Always Ready to Serve

Whenever the community calls, GFWC LaFayette Woman’s Club is always at the forefront. Be it arts, education, public issues, or cultural engagements, we seize every opportunity to enhance LaFayette.

Community Initiatives & Contributions

Our civic engagements began with “Stuff and Such”, a thrift initiative designed to uplift our community. Although the shop has since closed its doors, our spirit of community service continued to thrive:

  • Championed causes like the Handicapped Children’s Day Camp and foster programs for foreign children.
  • Sponsored scholarships for LaFayette High School and Northwestern Technical College.
  • Organized the Don Stultz Senior Citizens Day, Annual Veterans Day Program, and Hugh O’Brien Youth Scholarship Award.
  • Supported local initiatives like the Restoration of downtown LaFayette, Joe Stock Park, LaFayette Recreation Center, and more.
  • Actively collaborated with LaFayette schools, supporting events like the Walker County Schools Young Author’s Fair and Annual Art Show.
  • Led annual celebrations like the LaFayette Freedom Festival and the Reindeer Run— the latter assisting the Shop With A Cop program, bringing holiday joy to underprivileged children in our community.
